GoatMan…The Legend

For decades, legends told the tale about a creature which roamed the woods of Prince George’s County savagely killing everything in its path. Incidents of beheaded dogs, slaughtered goats, damaged vehicles and the brutal murders of teens over the years have been reported to be the work of this menacing monster. Many locals remember as a teenager, venturing out into the woods with their friends and even searching for this creature as sort of a Friday Night ritual. Popular areas for sighting the GoatMan spread all across the county. According to reports and newspaper articles written, some sightings are told to have happened at places such as: Zugg Road and Fletcher Town Rd. as well as Lottsford’s Lane, Crybaby’s Bridge and even Glenndale Hospital.

Some rumors surfaced that told of a doctor who worked at the United States Department of Agricultural Research Center in Beltsville Maryland. It is said that he performed an experiment using animal and human DNA where something went horribly wrong and created what we know today as the GoatMan. Very few details of this event were ever revealed to link a face or specific location to the Legend. No one knows what became of the crazy doctor or his unnatural creation…but some say that the GoatMan is still lurking in woods…waiting for his next victim.

GoatMan Hollow…The Legend Waits For You

October 2002: The story of the GoatMan is rediscovered. Rumors resurfaced and sightings increased, as Halloween grew closer. Many people reported seeing a strange mutated creature in the woods of Hyattsville Maryland in Prince George’s County. Some have claimed to have been approached or even chased by the monster on several occasions. Although sightings of the GoatMan are heard of in Maryland, these sightings were greatly increased to an insane number during the month of October 2002. Never before had there been so many sightings of the GoatMan in one place through out the history of the Legend.

Even stranger than the numerous GoatMan sightings…are the ones that claim to have encountered a man by the name of Dr. Stephen Fletcher. It is reported that the doctor confessed to creating the GoatMan by crossing the DNA of a goat and his assistant William Lottsford in an experiment. The reports also claimed that the crazy Dr. Fletcher was searching for the person who possessed particular DNA needed to bring his wife Jenny out of her deathly sleep. This left no one safe from the dark reaches of the insane Dr. Fletcher.

No-one is sure of the exact number of victims The Doctor and The GoatMan have claimed but it is estimated to be in the thousands…still even more thousands escape telling the same story as the one before them. ”The GoatMan is Real and is out there…just waiting for you! You will never see it coming! But if the GoatMan does not find you…Dr. Fletcher will!”

GoatMan Hollow…The Resurrection of Jenny Fletcher

October 2003: Again October rolled around and even more sightings of the GoatMan were reported in record numbers. Rumor now has it that even more did not make it out alive. Even though many perished, others survived telling of their experience and shedding more light on the Legend as they uncovered details never revealed before. One thing reported in particular is that Dr. Fletcher successfully created the antidote needed in order to resurrect his darling Jenny. He found the DNA needed and created a serum that resurrected her, but once again, something went wrong. The resurrection, although successful…only lasted a precious few minutes and she fell back into her sleep of death. The Doctor became increasingly delirious with anger and vowed to find the one responsible for sabotaging his experiment.

Some claim today that he is still out there searching for the truth, blaming everyone within sight, vowing to make everyone pay for what they have done.

GoatMan Hollow…The Revenge of Dr. Fletcher

October 2004: The Mad Dr. Fletcher has discovered the horrible truth behind his failed attempts to resurrect his long dead wife. He believes someone within the Fletcher Estates sabotaged his selfish efforts. Could it be his assistant Michael, or an enraged family member obsessed with putting a stop to Fletcher’s insane experiments; or is there a darker, more evil presence that is responsible for all the mistakes made in order to botch the Doctor’s plans? Will Dr. Fletcher find the one to blame and make them pay, or will he just seek vengeance on everyone within his grasp? What fate will befall everyone at GoatMan Hollow as the Doctor seeks his revenge? More importantly…will the GoatMan return to terrorize this small quiet community of Hyattsville Maryland? How many if any will make it out alive this time?

No one knows for sure if these new accounts to the legend are just attempts by dedicated believers to try and keep the story alive, or if the Doctor is really out there performing horrible experiments in hope of resurrecting his darling wife Jenny. But an even darker question is…if this is nothing more than an urban myth, and if the GoatMan does not exist…then what or who is out there in the woods leaving massacre after massacre behind for the world to see? Could all the reported sightings be just the exaggerated imaginations of people who watch too many X-Files episodes or horror movies searching for their own experience of the Unknown?

It is said that on cold October nights in Hyattsville Maryland, you can hear the screams of the ones that venture into those woods called the Hollow seeking the truth about the GoatMan.

GoatMan Hollow…Origin…The Lost Lab of Dr. Fletcher

October 2006: For many decades people have told stories of an urban legend called: The GoatMan of Prince George’s County Maryland. These stories primarily tell of a vicious creature that roams the woods savagely killing animals and humans alike. Incidents of beheaded dogs, slaughtered goats, damaged vehicles, missing persons and the brutal murders of people over the years have been reported to be the work of the menacing monster. Many locals remember as a teenager, venturing out into the woods with their friends and even searching for this creature as sort of a Friday or Saturday night ritual. Popular areas for sighting the GoatMan spread all across the county. According to reports and newspaper articles written, some sightings are said to have happened at places such as: Zugg Road, Fletchertown Road, Lottsford Road, Crybaby Bridge on Governor’s Bridge Road and Glenndale Hospital just to name a few. No one knows for sure just where this creature came from. Most times…the legend is told with the mentioning of an undocumented unnamed doctor from the United States Department of Agriculture Laboratory’s and is usually one of the first things given as an explanation for the GoatMan’s existence. It is said that this rogue doctor worked out of a private offsite facility located somewhere with in the immediate area of the U.S.D.A. campus.

Even though Cryptozoology (Research and Discovery of Unknown Animals of Unknown Origin) was not termed until the mid 1950’s…it is speculated that the U.S.D.A. was researching Cryptozoology well into the early 1900’s and possibly the late 1800’s. Rumors surfaced about this doctor who while working for the U.S.D.A. discovered a revolutionary scientific procedure referred to today as genetic engineering or recombinant DNA technology also known as gene splicing. Soon after his discovery…his wife grew fatally ill of a rare disorder, which placed her in a coma like state. It is believed that he moved his sick wife into the secret genetic research facility so he could focus directly on curing her of her rare condition by the use of his gene splicing discoveries. This is where the legend takes a dark and horrible turn. One night while working on one of his gene splicing experiments hoping to find a cure for his wife…the doctor made a fatal error that turned his assistant into what we have come to know as The GoatMan.

Stranger yet…is…that no one knows for sure what became of the doctor, his wife or The GoatMan…but the recent discovery of the name Dr. Stephen Fletcher and the location of his secret research laboratory in Riverdale Maryland…has unearthed a lost chapter of the story that has never been told…until now.

GoatMan Hollow 2007 - CRYPTID... The Dorsey Project

October 2007: For decades the state of Maryland had been plagued with the urban legend of The GoatMan. It is rumored that the GoatMan is the result of a psychotic doctor’s ambition to find a cure for his dying wife’s fatal disease and his intent to distribute revenge to the very one responsible for her illness. The legend of the GoatMan has captured the attention of many respected new reporting agencies such as: FOX 5 DC, The Washington City Paper & The Washington Post just to name a few. The Maryland GoatMan Legend has been featured in several TV documentaries such as: Creepy Canada on OLN TV in the U.K. and 666 – Search For The Devil on Living TV in England.

The GoatMan legend has become the center focus of research for two professors, Dr's Calvert and Victoria Heights, living in Riverdale Maryland and their interest has led them to create their own research facility named: The Dorsey Laboratories. Professors Calvert and Victoria Heights worked together at the University of Maryland and The United States Department of Agriculture. The scientific community has been concealing proof of Dr. Fletcher and the GoatMan’s existence. While the U.S.D.A. and UMD has always maintained flat out denial of the existence of the GoatMan, true GoatMan believers are convinced the government knew far more than they claimed. Through a strange twist of fate, the Heights learned that their employers had schemed to leak the truth as a conspiracy theory to make the story about how the GoatMan was created appear to be only the imagination of conspiracy theorists.

Stunned and betrayed by their employers, the Heights could no longer continue their work for such defarious and deceptive organizations. With the best of intentions, the professors began their own research, but soon the once ethical Professors became obsessed with the legend of the GoatMan. What initially began as a search for The GoatMan quickly turned into a search for Dr. Fletcher. To further their research, the Heights opened their laboratories to the general public and began to expose the truth behind the USDA, the UMD and the GoatMan Legend. However, as the professors obsession with the GoatMan legend grew, their moral and ethical values began to erode and they became like the very organizations they sought to destroy and expose. The temptation of limitless and unbound science became too great and ultimately, the Heights chose the same path of lies and destruction like so many have before them.
